ABOUT

When Zoey’s not in the studio or coaching clients, you can find this 23 year old traveling, volunteering or spending time with her family. A bunny mom to Stripe and Chewie and dog mom to Lola, she’s been competing in pageants since she was five. Her passions include finding new hobbies and interests - whether it’s swimming with sharks in the Bahamas or skydiving in Hawaii - Zoey has an eye for wanderlust and lives by the motto that “life is a gift” and is too short not to be lived to the fullest.

Zoey is a Los Angeles based artist, coach and philanthropist.

Zoey Shockley is a powerful and tenacious artist whose energy can be felt through mediums varying from theater jazz and contemporary dance all the way to pageantry, stage production, choreography, cinematography and acting. Her fluidity, curiosity, and captivating work invite audiences into a playful and dynamic performative experience.

Born and raised in the City of Angels, Zoey started her formal dance training at the age of three at The Dance Center and later at the Art of the Dance Academy under Leslie de Munez where she took ballet/pointe, jazz, contemporary, lyrical and tap classes. At the age of five Zoey competed in her first pageant as a Princess with National American Miss. Over the years, her love of the stage would reflect in both pageantry and dance. With master classes ranging from contemporary dance with Sonia Tayeh to intense interview prep with Bill Alverson, Zoey is a driven spirit who encompasses many styles and years of rigorous dance and competitive pageant training.

Attending CHAMPS Charter High School of the Multimedia and Performing Arts with a major in Dance, she took classes with Madeleine Dahm, Melody McKnight, Jaclyn Attefat, Andrew Pearson, Alexis Carra and more. It was in her freshman year of high school that Zoey started training at the Los Angeles Ballet Academy and truly found her love for community and ensemble-concert work in the arts under the direction of Andrea Paris-Gutierrez. Attending weekly Royal Academy of Dance classes on top of core dance electives, her technique grew tremendously with mentorship from Gutierrez, Nicolette Atkins, Gina Gosalvez, Cedric Dodd, Tracey Rounds, Cassie Dzienny, Veronica Gutierrez, Conny Mathot, Tess Hewitt, and Philip Pegler.

Meanwhile, Zoey found a mutual love for self-improvement in pageantry and when she wasn’t training, spent her spare time preparing for her next competition. With a lot of resilience she acquired countless Top 5, Top 10 and Top 15 placements locally, statewide, and nationally. While in high school nursing a labral hip tear, Zoey went on to win her first title as Miss Hollywood Teen USA 2016.

In her Junior year, Zoey won the Los Angeles Ballet Academy’s Annual Choreography Festival for her work on the piece, “Hollow” where her ballet-contemporary inspired piece opened at the Alex Theater in 2017. In the same year, she also went on to win the International Junior Miss California Teen title with a Top 15 placement at nationals. As a senior, Zoey and her peers at the Los Angeles Ballet Academy were awarded Top 12 in the world for a Contemporary Ensemble at the YAGP NYC Finals in 2018.

Following her graduation from CHAMPS and LABA, Zoey created her own non-profit organization, “A Hole Lot of Heart”. With the goal of not only sharing her story of being born with a hole in her heart (congenital heart defect - specifically a VSD), it is Zoey’s ambition to raise awareness for Congential Heart Defect’s and Women’s Heart Disease. While promoting the importance of living an active and healthy lifestyle via platforms like Instagram, Zoey has hosted many heart-walks and fundraisers for the American Heart Association as well.

Shortly after launching her foundation, Zoey decided to further pursue her love of the arts and moved to NYC in the spring of 2019 to attend the American Musical and Dramatic Academy College and Conservatory. There she received Broadway Dance, Jazz, Ballet, Tap, Musical Theater, Acting, and Vocal lessons under mentors Ramon Galindo, Dorothy Stone, Brigid Brady, Gentry George, Michele Hart-Haviland, Katie Ann Harvey, Billy Johnstone, Lars Rosager, Nicolas Thompson, Jena Vanelslander, Cynthia Murray-Davis, George Nieves, Jim Elliot, Patrick Porter, Scott Robertson, Janine Aloisi, Rebecca Arends, America Barcenas De La Luz, Laurena Barros, Michelle Bruckner, and Gene Castle.

Receiving her Associates in Dance Theatre from the AMDA NY campus, Zoey decided to finish up her Bachelors in Dance Theater at AMDA LA amidst the COVID-19 pandemic. There she trained under Genevieve Carson, Tracy Silver, Mackenzie Martin, Stefanie Santiago, Jessica Franco, Stephanie Landwehr and more. While living between Vegas and LA, Zoey won the title of National American Miss Nevada in the summer of 2021 where she went on to place as 4th Runner-Up at nationals. Zoey later became a first-generation college graduate and would teach part-time as a Jazz Instructor at her former dance studio, the Los Angeles Ballet Academy. Zoey is currently the Official Stage Manager and Choreographer for the America’s Ideal Miss California State Pageant.

With eight 1st Runner-Up placements, fifteen Top 5 placements, twenty accumulated Top 10 and Top 15 placements, and six local, state and national titles, you could say Zoey is the “queen” of all things tenacity and perseverance. Most recently winning the title of National All-American Miss 2022, Zoey’s life mission is to leave behind a trail of genuine self-expression and resilience with efforts from her dance career and coaching business Zoey Shockley Consulting as well as her personal platform, “A Hole Lot of Heart”. She firmly believes that the true essence of a leader and trailblazer is someone who doesn’t attain followers, but is intentional and makes the space to create more leaders. By becoming a master of her own life, Zoey’s primary goal is to spread the message everywhere to never give up.
